Then I realised I'd spelt it wrong and found this.
It's ridiculous and I think it should be ridiculed. Why? The reasons are three-fold:
1. You have to pay to use it.
It's punctuation! How can you copyright punctuation? How can you police the copyrighting of punctuation? Soon I'll have to start paying every time I use the word 'and'. And I'll be poor.
2. Sarcasm works on it's subtlety. It's a clever form of wit because it's like a secret club. It's hidden. You have to work on it. You can tell a lot about a person's sense of humour by if they 'get' it. The SarcMarc is like shouting 'It's a joke! See, this is why it's funny! It's a joke! Aren't I brilliant?!'
3. Out of love and respect for the person you are speaking to / the emailee / your boss, you don't use sarcasm if there is any chance of them being offended. Tone has a hard time coming across in print which is why print is used for certain things, and face-to-face communication for others. You choose your communication wisely, with respect for other people at the centre of it. That's part of being human. Deciphering random hieroglyphics is less so.
I want to add a fourth, which is something alone the lines of bored creatives with nothing better to do, but I think that might just be mean. So I won't.
Sorry, came over a bit Charlie Brooker there. Am I overreacting?
Am I alone in thinking it is bonkers or will we all be using it in a week?

I thought a smiley did this anyway! What a silly idea.
Or, one might say, what a brilliant way to aid communication. :)
