My friend A wrote this great post about a perfect day and so, as there are no new ideas anymore, I'm going to steal it. Here is my idea of a perfect evening. There has to be...
1. Something cultural, engaging and creative.
I love doing something that I'm going to talk about. Be that a play, a gallery, an amazing gig or just a new location, I want to feel like my life got more interesting in that last hour.
On Friday, L and I went to BUG, a celebration of music videos at the BFI. We've been several times before and just love it. The people are so interesting, the art so imaginative, plus it's in my favourite part of town. I'm also a massive fan of the host, who makes me cry with laughter.
2. Some people that I know, love and like.
Soppy, yes. But I'm not much fun by myself. After BUG on Friday I went over to L's (different L) house and sat at her kitchen table, drinking wine and playing cards into the wee small hours. Good conversation, nice element of competition, wine to celebrate the weekend. I'm going to push for it to become more than a semi-regular occurance.
3. Some food.
This is the one thing Friday lacked. Not including L's wonderful hospitality in preventing me from fainting, reasons far too boring for me to go into stopped me from eating dinner. I love food, but I'm fussy and have allergies, which makes me an annoying co-diner. I also love being so hungry that I eat like it's my final meal. I find real joy in restaurants that have passion for their food - examples in the Common and Southwark come to mind. This point naturally also includes good wine. It's an essential. It can also be a part of 1. if it's a really good meal.
That's a good start as any to my ideal evening. What have I forgotten?
